Resin - First Go

Had a go at using Resin to make a Bangle and Pendant as an Xmas present for my mum. I think it looks pretty cool but as you can see from the pic below I muffed it slightly by not filling the mold properly.

I also ruined a small batch of Pendants coz they were filled with bubbles, ya haveta pay attention when using Resin, but still, lessons learned.

If I'd thought of this earlier I woulda ordered the parts to make it motion sensitive, I've got the components to make a light sensitive circuit but once it's night that's a bit redundant...unless you put it in someone's bedroom.

Not quite as cheerful as last years

General reaction goes summink like "Ah...Ohh" With the Ohh accompanied by a slightly scrunched up face coz they've just realised what they're lookin' at.

I'm 'Gruesome' apparently :)

The bottom line on the right of the picture is meant to be there (it's the ground) but the one above it is a cock up.

Not great and it still needs a bit of a tidy but it'll do.

My first attempt at a '3D' plush

I'm somewhere inbetween liking and hating it, it's not so shit i'm gunna throw it in the bin but it's not good enough to give to someone either, so he's just sitting on my shelves at the moment. I like the tail and the stitching along the back, that's about it.

Lots of mistakes in there but I learnt alot, I couldn't really get my head round the 3D plushies before. Couldn't work out how to do a mouth though, now i'm thinkin' a kinda smirk part way up coulda worked...

I used Akireru's Wolf Plush Pattern that she has very kindly made available for free HERE and have a look through her gallery coz she's done some wicked cool stuff.

How did I ever make these things?! They're a nightmare! I had an idea of summink to make outta cans but thought I'd do a quick warm up first but jeez this was a pain!

There's an LED inside his head, there was two, one for each eye, but I managed to break the solder while closing him up and I'd already used an Epoxy Steel to attach the Cell to the head by that point so there was no going back, there's just a faint green glow

Suffice to say, I've abanoned the other idea.

If you're wondering why some of the sticks are thicker than the others (i dunno, you might be that weird) the thin one's are normal plastic lolly sticks that came with the set, while the thicker ones are Candy Sticks so the whole thing is edible.

So, my mum told me a story the other day, it was about her friends grandson and his 5th birthday. Apparently the kid likes to draw so as a present he got a big pack of colouring pens, which he was delighted with. Now it's his bedtime and he trots off taking his treasured new pens with him, a little while later, they come to realising he's still up and so they go to his room to check on him and...he's coloured himself in blue, head to toe, arms, legs even his 'boy bits' completely blue, asked why, he simply replied "I wanted to be a blue monster".

Now in my world, that kid doesn't get told off, in my world he's to be admired, in my world that kinda imagination and perseverence is to be rewarded, so i've made him this tee. Yes! In my world doing something stupid and fun gets you free shit! Next time you see someone doing something stupid and fun make them something, give them something, just highfive the fool! And we shall make the world stupid and fun again! Who's with me?!

Inception - A lot to be admired, great cast, amazing score by Hans Zimmer, generally it's brilliant, go see it at the cinema, dunno how well it'll transfer to the small screen.
Toy Story 3 (3D) - Dull, but that seems to be just me, people were crying...
Night & Day - This is a short that's shown before Toy Story 3 but i'm giving it a mention coz I thought it was brilliant. Imaginative, creative, funny and entertaining, everything that the main feature wasn't.
A-Team - Really enjoyed it, aint gunna win any oscars but it was never meant to.

Tried to make a bag for my sisters birthday as the tee was crap but it came out real crappy too, real horrible stitching.It did manage to take the weight of a book and a tee inside it though.
she's out using now apparently, not sure it'll cope :/

Victoria & Albert Museum (plus Natural History Museum)

Went to the V&A to see the 1:1 Architects Build Small Spaces Exhibition, mainly to see the piece below coz i'm a big fan of his other work

I've never been to the V&A before and I was a bit overawed by it, there's just so much stuff

While it is a place of class and culture none of it rubbed off on me :P
A giant tiny penis
I can't remember this fellas name, some sorta pagan god, it was bout 12 foot tall...

Right in the middle of the museum is their garden and it's really nice, people were sittin' eatin', sunbathing and paddling in the fountain, you expect museums to be stuffy and formal but this wasn't like that at all.
There's this massive...thing, made outta balloons (I think) in the main entrance hall.

I loved The Natural History Museum as a child (shuddup, I liked Dinosaurs) but it's really disappointing now, there's like 4 dinosaurs and it's really badly layed out, they just don't seem to have thought things through from a visitors viewpoint.This Diplodocus was the biggest thing in the world when I was a kid.

The Whale skeletons are still impressive...

Anyway, I loved the V&A and I definitely want to go back again soon, way too much stuff to look at in one day. If you're feelin' suitably bored there's loads more pics on my Flickr

Told ya I knew where i'd gone wrong.
Me on a pancake does lead easily into many jokes but they're all extremely vulgar so i'll leave it to you to fill in your own ;)

Experimenting with the leftover mix to see if I could get a swirly pattern, looks appetising don't it?

Weirdly the talking pancake is way creepier than the skull, food that introduces itself...don't think it's gunna catch on.

I can still do better but i'm pleased with the improvement in both images and cooking.

Patterned Pancakes

Tried out the Patterned Pancakes project from CO&K and, well, you can see for yourself, not a great success, they're not burnt, I just kept flippin' em on top of each other by mistake and the colouring smudged, despite appearences they taste alright.

Gunna have another go coz I know some of the mistakes I made and I think I was makin it harder for myself than I needed to.

GAH, you don't look like that when i write it, you don't look like that in the preview, so why do you have to be such a ******* **** all the ******* time blogger. ****!

I seem to get a lot of hits from people searching for papercraft models so I figured I should add the layout sheets so people can make them if they wanna.I think this is the final sheet, I tend to print off multiples in different sizes when I first make them but while I don't remember doing this, it does look like I made an effort to get a final version in one place.
Honestly, you wouldn't believe how many people come here lookin' for a platypus papercraft

Helen Frik was doing a show at the Chapter Gallery in Cardiff and wanted people to send in weird homemade toys, which I did, only problem was it was too far away to visit and I could never find any pictures of the exhibit online. Luckily I've finally found some over at the Bird In The House Blog.I love this little Yeti lookin' guy but look in the background...those green and red blurs, they might just be discarded crisp packets but i'm fairly sure thats my crappy robots!

For such a complicated stencil this probably wasn't worth the effort, I don't think the weather helps though, I don't know if it's the heat stopping the stencil adhering to the tee or because the paint is drying so quickly and becoming sticky but parts of the stencil kept lifting off. Beware The Strange Green Marks

The tees that got ruined by the strange green marks generally came out of the wash alright, but because I had to put these two through quite a harsh wash more than a couple of times there's been a slight cracking of the paint in one or two places.It's barely noticable but it's still unacceptable
So i've refused payment and told the customer they can have them for nothing.

Really didn't think that the style of paper flowers I came up with was good enough for my brother to give to his missus so i've had another go.I think it looks better.
Plus it's bigger, basically life sized.
Maybe need to do something with the outer petals?
